When I was in college I heard a saying. "Those who can do. Those who can't teach." The best and the brightest in a profession should teach it. But, I can not blame them if they don't. They can make a lot more anywhere else besides the classroom.

It is so easy to blame the poor for their problems. I have heard it said that "If they would just get a job they wouldn't be poor" Now the people that were saying that, five years ago, have lost their job.

Businesses have shot themselves in the foot. They outsourced all their work and now all the laid off workers have no money to spend and the businesses are going belly up.

My sister and her husband have been living in their RV and traveling around the country for the last few months. They stopped by to visit for a few days and while they were here she mentioned that tent cities are going up around America like the old Hoovervilles of the Great Depression. I found that hard to believe because I had not heard anything about them on the news, so she found this video on Youtube. Notice that it is from the BBC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnnOOo6tRs8

Have any of you heard of these or have any info on them?

Meat substitutes like TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) are becoming hard to find in the US because people are worried about the future and are buying it up because it stores so much better then meat.

(When I mention TVP people usually say that they have never heard of it. Maybe you haven't but chances are you have eaten it. Imitation bacon bits are TVP, made from soybeans.)

Here in the US our government is working on a $700+ billion dollar bailout of financial institutions, but there are tent cities going up to house the homeless because so many people have lost their jobs.
The figures are not released yet but it looks like close to 2,000,000 people will have made first time claims for unemployment in Sept. That doesn't count the number of people that still can not find jobs after how many months.

That is wrong, I'm sure there is some organization in town that helps the poor and old get this food. I doubt every Wall Mart does this.

I'm signing this, but I wonder how effective these online petitions are, though?
